The History of Bradleys Jewellers
How We Started
Bradleys opened in 1977. The first shop was 27 West Hill, Dartford opened by Mr Bradley himself. With the help of his father, they decorated the shop and made blocks and pads to use for display. He covered everything with green fabric which has become our trademark colour! The day he opened he put just two rings in the window. By 5 pm that day, both were sold and Mr Bradley began making more!
From then on, Bradleys went from success to success, eventually opening another branch at 60 Hythe Street in September 1990, to be closer to the town centre. Three years later and we opened the doors for our store in Trading World, Bexleyheath.
In 1995, we moved our Bexleyheath store from Trading World to 148 Broadway and it has remained there ever since. But that wasn’t the only move that we’ve had! In 2001, we closed the doors of our West Hill store permanently. We were so sad to see it go. There were so many wonderful memories of running up and down those creaky wooden stairs and the laughter you would always hear from the workshop upstairs.
If you were to visit the same address on West Hill today, you’ll find that it has now been converted into a house. As for Trading World, you’ll find plenty of modern shops and cafes in a pedestrianised area where shoppers come and go daily. Today, you will find us opposite Primark and always busy!
Since it’s beginnings, Bradleys have had many successes and in the last few years has changed hands in ownership.
Still a family run business, we are now owned by the jeweller who started as Mr Bradley’s apprentice when he was just sixteen.
We are always happy to see our regular customers and eager to meet new customers. Call into our Dartford or Bexleyheath store today to see what jewellery and services we can offer you! You can always visit our products page right here on the website!
